Walking in Waterford

Map outlining St. Declan's WayA "Way Marked" Walk

St. Declan's Way is an ancient pilgrims' path approximately 60 miles / 94km in length.

The path, which includes some stretches of roadway, runs from Ardmore on the coast northwards following the River Blackwater close to Cappoquin and Lismore, then heads north again through the Knockmealdown Mountains to Ardfinnan.
From Ardfinnan the path travels to Cahir ending in Cashel.

St. Declan lived between 350-450 AD and introduced Christianity to the south of Ireland before the coming of St. Patrick.

Declan met with Patrick a number of times at Cashel.

Ardmore is the oldest Christian settlement in Ireland and was founded by St. Declan in 416 AD.
